| Foxy Lady Contest |
Started in 1974, the Alpha Gamma Rho Foxy Lady Contest is the longest running Philanthropy on the University of Illinois campus. This event was established with the purpose to help raise money for the American Cancer Society.
The contestants consists of one member from each of the university's sororities. The contest begins with a formal dinner at the AGR chapter house. Following the meal, each contestant is interviewed by a panel of judges consisting of alumni and professors. This interview is a chance for the judges to become familiar with each contestant's personality and aspirations.
On the night of the contest each lady prepares a short speech that talks about how the University of Illinois and her sorority have helped her grow as a person. The contestants are then narrowed down to the finalists, who are then asked to respond to one impromptu question asked by the judges. Then judges then take into account the formal interview, speech, and the contestants answer to the spontaneous question to decide who will be named the Alpha Gamma Rho Foxy Lady.
The event receives great press for Alpha Gamma Rho as well as cancer awareness. |
